ABOUT BARBARA M. CASANOVA

My family's political legacy is steeped in a deep commitment to freedom and capitalism. My Grandfather, Jose Manual Casanova, Sr., a Cuban Senator and Sugarmill owner, was known as the Sugar Czar and coined the phrase "Sin Azucar No Hay Pais."When my parents came to the US in exile in 1960, they dedicated themselves to advancing these causes, advocating for limited government, free speech, and a robust national defense. My father, Jose Manuel Casanova, Jr., became Chair of the Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee, and my Mother, Alicia Labrit Casanova, was a National Chair of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly and a Presidential Appointee under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, Sr.

My father's service in the Reagan Administration was a testament to his dedication and leadership. President Reagan appointed him as US Executive Director of the Interamerican Development Bank, making him the highest-ranking Cuban-American in the Administration. His influence extended further when then Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary James A. Baker III, appointed him to serve simultaneously as US Executive Director for the InterAmerican Investment Corporation. During his eight years of service, he approved over 20 billion dollars in loans and played a key role in promoting free enterprise in Latin America.

President Ronald Reagan appointed Alicia Casanova to serve as Comptroller of the Peace Corps. Later, President George H. W. Bush appointed her as Director of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization at the Department of Transportation, where she helped deliver millions of dollars in DOT loans to minority‑ and women‑owned businesses until her retirement in 1994.

Growing up at her side, I learned politics, campaigning, and civic duty early. I volunteered on national campaigns, attended multiple RNC Conventions, and developed skills in strategic planning, campaign management, grassroots development, and communications. I earned a B.A. in Political Science from The Catholic University of America, while interning for Congresswoman Ileana Ros‑Lehtinen, and worked at the Republican National Hispanic Assembly's national office in DC.

Professionally, I have spent more than 30 years in the association and nonprofit world, serving in roles including legislative aide, lobbyist, membership director, communications manager, and program manager. In 1995, I served as a Special Assistant to San Diego Mayor Susan Golding. By 2000, I was a campaign consultant for the Vermont Republican Legislative Election Committee, supervising 40 statehouse candidates and gaining firsthand experience in the stark contrast between national campaigns and rural politics.

Currently, I serve on the boards of Cuban Cultural Heritage and the Cuban Sugar Mill Owners Association, and the Miami-Dade Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board. I am a Committeewoman for the Republican Party of Miami‑Dade County District 19, National Secretary of the RNHA, and State Chair for the RNHA Florida. I am a contributor for The Miami Independent and the conservative media platform CD Media.

.

Additionally, I am the Founder and CEO of UnaVoz, a 501(c)(4) focused on educating voters, mentoring prospective candidates, and equipping them with the tools needed to run effective campaigns and grassroots initiatives. Through my platform, activists and campaigners across the Countycan share experiences, mentor each other, and request assistance with campaigns and legislative initiatives.

I remain actively involved in several political and philanthropic projects, and I invite you to explore them here or visit my LinkedIn page. If you’d like to connect or volunteer, please reach out.
